ODDA Writes to Lord Hanson about the need for the UK Government to do more in tackling online fraud

With fraud accounting for over half of all crime in the UK, the Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA) calls on the Government to do more to tackle this global problem. In our letter to the Fraud Minister, Lord Hanson of Flint, we ask for better access to Government data, and for the Government to proactively block Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of known fraudsters from UK users. We also highlight potential risks of Highly Effective Age Assurance measures introduced under the Online Safety Act.

Simon Newman, CEO of the ODDA says “Our members have worked hard to tackle fraud. We know that online users are less likely to be a victim of romance fraud on a dating app than they are on a social media site, but to make a sustainable difference to the problem requires the Government to step up and do more.”
