Trustpilot reviews: ODDA calls for member experiences

Several members have reported issues with Trustpilot reviews which is becoming increasingly influential in both SEO and AI. This is having a negative impact on how the dating or social discovery service is rated (and on the sector more widely). It is therefore crucial that Trustpilot has sufficient safeguards in place to protect against the malicious reviews which dominate our entire category.

Issues include:

  • Malicious ‘punishment’ reviews – where a user posts a malicious review to punish a service after perceived unfair treatment (e.g removing a user because they have been abusive to other members).
  • Anonymous reviews – where the user declines to provide information in order to help identify them. Trustpilot have recently changed their approach to reviews where anonymity can no longer be used as a reason to remove the review (thereby creating an obvious opportunity for malicious reviews with no recourse for the service).
  • Not removing reviews which are objectively defamatory even when flagged as such.
  • Requiring payment to provide the tools to remove malicious reviews.

ODDA is collecting member experiences of Trustpilot, both positive and negative. If you have experienced any of the above, or have any other experiences with Trustpilot which you would like to feed back, please get in touch. We are looking at setting up a meeting with Trustpilot in the UK to put these concerns to them in person. However, we are also considering other options, including a formal complaint to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
