Webinar: Tackling Romance Scams – Keeping Users Safe from Fraudsters
29 October 2024 | 2:00pm to 3:00pm GMT | Online
Romance fraud is a particularly nasty crime that can affect anyone. It is a type of social engineering where the fraudster builds a relationship with their intended victim, usually over a number of weeks or months that can have a devastating effect.
As part of our month-long focus on romance scams, the Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA) will be taking an in-depth look at the problem and the techniques used by scammers, as well as the technology used to detect scammers. We’ll also be discussing how online platforms can keep their users safe.
Joining us will be A/Police Sergeant Kevin Bassant from City of London Police. Kevin will also be talking about the Date Safe Working Group, which was launched in 2017 and brings together law enforcement, online dating companies and others to share best practice. We will also be joined by Nick Tsinonis from fraud and scammer detection specialists, Scamalytics, who will provide us with an insight into how technology is being used in the fight against fraudsters.
A recording of this event will be made available to registered attendees.
