BBC Radio 4 Money Box interview

George Kidd recently spoke to Radio 4 Money Box regarding clarity of costs for the consumer when using online dating services. You can listen to the interview here (starts at 10 mins in).

Online dating services should make it clear to customers before any financial payments are made what is available free and what additional access or provision costs exist within a service and the duration of any offers or subscriptions. Being clear to the user does not mean that these costs should only be included in lengthy terms and conditions. Legal advice is that the use of pre-ticked boxes or silence in relation to future payments in a EU jurisdiction does not constitute consent by the consumer under GDPR regulations.

ODA advises users to take their time when looking at which dating services to join and look out for the ODA Member logo. And speak to family and friends to see if they have any recommendations for services they have used.
