ODDA Letter to Jess Phillips MP – Preventing High Risk Offenders from Accessing Online Dating Apps
The ODDA and its members are fully committed to keeping individuals off dating and social discovery apps who pose a real risk of harm to others – particularly those who commit violent or serious sexual offences. We’ve been exploring ways to achieve this as apps in the UK don’t have routine access to criminal record data. As a result, we have written to the Minister for Safeguarding, Jess Phillips MP with a suggestion to extend the ‘right to ask’ and the ‘right to know’ under the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, also known as ‘Clare’s Law’. This would bring users of certain apps within the scope of the scheme.
