Safer Swiping Better Dating – New safeguarding tips promote dating app advances in user safety
You may have seen the latest data from TSB showing that money lost to romance scams jumped to 37% in 2025. However, with over 58% of romance fraud cases now starting on social platforms, compared to less than 40% on dating apps, it’s clear that the hard work the online dating industry is putting in to reduce scams is having a positive impact.
That’s why we’re pleased to launch our latest consumer awareness campaign, Safer Swiping, Better Dating, designed to promote how online dating has evolved and to highlight the ongoing work our members are doing to make dating apps safer, fairer, and more enjoyable for everyone.
As part of the campaign, we also interviewed Anna Rowe, founder of LoveSaid, a romance fraud think tank, to discuss a real-world perspective on why these tips are so important and relevant to the modern dating app user.
As Anna puts it:
“Give yourself permission to use the safety tools. Once you move off the app, platforms can’t see what’s happening — and that’s where risk increases.”
To support this, we’ve created a set of practical tips designed to help people better understand the safety tools already available on dating apps, and how to use them with confidence. These tips can be downloaded here.
