The ODDA responds to CMA commitments agreed with Apple and Google
The ODDA has today submitted its response to the CMA on the commitments agreed with Apple and Google regarding their mobile ecosystems.
While this is a step in the right direction, we (and many others across the developer community) don’t believe the proposals go far enough, and risk failing to deliver meaningful change.
The commitments aren’t legally binding, leave too much room for interpretation, and don’t tackle some of the biggest issues developers face. This includes unclear app review processes, concerns around Apple favouring its own apps, and the complete absence of action on commission fees.
For app businesses looking for fairness and certainty, this doesn’t move things forward in a meaningful way.
We believe stronger, clearer rules are needed if the UK wants to properly support competition and innovation in the app economy, especially when other regions are already taking firmer action.
We appreciate the opportunity to feed into the CMA’s process and look forward to what comes next.
